Arminia block Bayern ambitions

FC Bayern München missed the chance to go top of the Bundesliga as they lost at DSC Arminia Bielefeld allowing 1. FC Nürnberg to move one point clear.

FC Bayern München missed the chance to go top of the Bundesliga as the champions suffered their first defeat of the season at previously winless DSC Arminia Bielefeld. Instead, 1. FC Nürnberg now lead the way by one point.

Bayern reverse
Bayern took just six minutes to take the lead through Mark van Bommel, on his first league appearance since joining from FC Barcelona in the summer. But Artur Wichniarek headed an equaliser for the home team midway through the second half and inside the last ten minutes Jonas Kamper's free-kick sealed victory. Bayern midfielder Owen Hargreaves was taken off during the first period and has a suspected broken leg.

Nürnberg set pace
Nürnberg's 1-1 draw against VfL Bochum 1848 took them a point clear and allowed the visitors to get off the mark four games into the season. Greek striker Theofanis Gekas had put Bochum into an early lead but Jan Polák levelled on the half-hour. FC Schalke 04 could overtake Nürnberg on Sunday with a win at unbeaten Hertha BSC Berlin, while Eintracht Frankfurt meet fellow UEFA Cup contenders Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

Dortmund defeat Hamburg
BV Borussia Dortmund and promoted FC Energie Cottbus are both in the top five after home wins. Dortmund defeated Hamburger SV with Chrisrian Wörns's late goal while Romanian duo Sergiu Radu and Vlad Munteanu gave Energie a 2-0 victory against 1. FSV Mainz 05.

Stuttgart comeback
However, Werder Bremen lost ground with a 3-2 home defeat by VfB Stuttgart having led 2-0 on the half-hour; Mario Gomez scored the late winner. So top-flight newcomers TSV Alemannia Aachen are ahead of Bremen after an exciting 4-2 victory against VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach, Jan Schlaudraff claiming a hat-trick. In the Friday night game Thomas Brdaric scored twice for Hannover 96 as they claimed their first points of the season by beating VfL Wolfsburg 2-1.
