CFR 1907 Cluj have won their first Romanian Super Cup, winning 3-2 on penalties against league champions AFC Unirea Urziceni in the first edition of the competition to feature no Bucharest sides.

Losing streak
CFR, the Romanian Cup winners, opened the scoring three minutes before the break with captain Cadu heading home from a corner, but Unirea were back on level terms within four minutes of the restart through a splendid Sorin Frunza free-kick. Both sides had chances to win it in open play, with Yssouf Koné hitting the bar for CFR, but with the scores level at 1-1 after 120 minutes, it went down to penalties, with Unirea's luck failing them. They have now lost all eight of their top-level games against CFR, including the 2008 Romanian Cup final. The two teams meet again on Saturday in the first round of the new Romanian league season. CFR start their UEFA Europa League campaign in the play-offs while Unirea will compete in this season's UEFA Champions League group stage.
