Juve slam the brakes on Inter

Claudio Marchisio's goal earned Juventus a 2-1 victory over Serie A leaders FC Internazionale Milano, with AC Milan's 3-0 win against UC Sampdoria further tightening the situation at the top of the table.

Unbeaten in their previous eight league games, José Mourinho's side finally buckled in Turin, going behind after Diego's 20th-minute free-kick beat Júlio César, with the help of a deflection off Felipe Melo. Samuel Eto'o restored parity six minutes later, heading home from Dejan Stanković's cross, but the game was won in the 58th minute, with Júlio César's parry from a Mohamed Sissoko strike teeing up Marchisio to lift the ball over the goalkeeper and into the net. Juve, who had Felipe Melo sent off late on, trail Inter by five points with Milan now just four points off the summit.

First-half blitz
The Rossoneri thrashed UC Sampdoria 3-0 in the early game in Italy, with a flurry of first-half goals killing the game off long before the break. Marco Borriello headed Leonardo's side into the lead after just two minutes from Ronaldinho's cross, and the same player played a one-two with Clarence Seedorf before the Dutchman made it 2-0 on 21 minutes. Borriello's header teed up Pato for Milan's third two minutes later; Luca Castellazzi saved his first effort but had no chance from the rebound.
