FC Girondins de Bordeaux's hopes of pulling clear at the top of Ligue 1 suffered a setback on Wednesday when they lost 2-1 at home to title rivals AJ Auxerre, for whom Ireneusz Jeleń scored twice.
A deflected shot from Benoît Trémoulinas put the champions ahead seven minutes in at the Stade Chaban-Delmas, an advantage which they held until just past the hour mark when the visitors stepped up a gear. Jeleń equalised in the 64th minute by turning in Daniel Niculae's ball across the penalty area and then followed up to head in his second of the night seven minutes from time after his initial shot struck the crossbar.
Auxerre – who have now completed the double over Bordeaux this term – rise to third, a point behind their opponents, following their fourth successive league win. Leaders Les Marine et Blanc still have a game in hand on their rivals at the summit.
