FC Bayern München will meet Werder Bremen in the German Cup final after Arjen Robben scored a brilliant individual goal in extra time to settle a tense semi at FC Schalke 04.

There had been few chances of note when, with 112 minutes on the clock, Robben picked up a thrown pass from goalkeeper Hans-Jörg Butt deep inside his own half. The Dutch winger's intent was clear, though, as he sped towards goal, leaving Schalke players in his wake before finishing coolly to silence the majority of the 61,673 spectators in Gelsenkirchen.

Bayern will tackle Bremen, 2-0 winners against second division FC Augsburg on Tuesday, in the final in Berlin on 15 May as Louis van Gaal's Bundesliga leaders continue to chase glory on three fronts. That includes the UEFA Champions League where Manchester United FC lie in wait in the quarter-finals.
