Sunderland AFC sprung an almighty surprise by winning 3-0 at titleholders and Premier League leaders Chelsea FC.
The Blues, who had not even conceded at Stamford Bridge in the league this season, remain at the summit, but their advantage over Arsenal FC is down to two points following the Gunners' 2-1 win at Everton FC. Up to sixth themselves, Sunderland kicked off their remarkable victory with Nedum Onuoha's stunning run and finish on the stroke of half-time.
Asamoah Gyan added a cool second seven minutes after the break and Danny Welbeck pounced on an uncharacteristic Ashley Cole error to complete the scoring three minutes from time. It was Steve Bruce's side's first win on the road this season and served as more than adequate revenge for the 7-2 loss they suffered at the same ground last term.
Arsenal's win was far from routine as Tim Cahill struck with a minute to go to guarantee a nervy end for the visitors at Goodison Park. They had earlier gone two in front courtesy of Bacary Sagna's second league goal for the club on 36 minutes and Cesc Fàbregas's strike just after the break.
