National-team captain Kaspars Gorkšs has beaten stiff competition from KKS Lech Poznań striker Artjoms Rudņevs to retain the Latvian player of the year award.

Central defender Gorkšs, who plies his trade with English second-tier side Queens Park Rangers FC, topped the poll ahead of Rudņevs and FC Sion goalkeeper Andris Vaņins. "It's a great honour as there are plenty of good players in Latvia," Gorkšs told UEFA.com. "This recognition adds extra responsibility, and I'll do my best not to disappoint the fans who think I'm the best."
