Čech takes sixth Czech Golden Ball

Petr Čech has won the Golden Ball as the Czech Republic's player of the season for a joint-record sixth time while champions FC Viktoria Plzeň dominated the league awards.

In the poll of journalists, the Chelsea FC goalkeeper secured 1,720 points, ahead of Viktoria Plzeň captain Pavel Horváth on 903 and Arsenal FC's Tomáš Rosický with 809. Also the reigning Football Association of the Czech Republic (ČMFS) player of the year, Čech, 29, equals the Golden Ball mark set by Pavel Nedvěd – the only man to interrupt the keeper's current reign since 2005 when the now-retired winger topped the poll two years ago.

For the first time the Golden Ball ceremony also honoured winners of the Czech league's end-of-season poll. Horváth, who skippered Plzeň to their first national championship, took three awards as King of the Pitch – given to the player with the highest average match rating from Sport newspaper – best midfielder and entertainer.

Viktoria's Pavel Vrba was named coach of the year, while AC Sparta Praha's Cameroonian forward Léonard Kweuke claimed the plaudits as revelation of the season and best foreign player. FK Jablonec's David Lafata was best forward, David Limberský of Viktoria lifted the defender's prize and the goalkeeping accolade went to Bohemians 1905's Radek Sňozík.

Limberský and Horváth were among seven Plzeň players voted into the 2010/11 Star Team. SK Slavia Praha goalkeeper Martin Vaniak received the Fair Play trophy after ending his career last Saturday with the distinction of never having been sent off in 440 league appearances.
