FC Bayern München boss Jupp Heynckes oversaw a comfortable win against his old side as Bayer 04 Leverkusen went down to first-half goals from Thomas Müller and Daniel Van Buyten and a late Arjen Robben strike in Munich.

The Bavarians went in front after just five minutes, with Franck Ribéry cutting in from the left and beating his man before finding Müller's head with a cross. Defender Van Buyten then fired a free-kick through the Leverkusen defensive wall to make it 2-0. Bernd Leno was beaten for a third time at the death when substitute Robben chased through Bastian Schweinsteiger's ball. Bayern have now won their last six Bundesiga games without conceding a goal.

In the early games, champions Borussia Dortmund won 2-1 at 1. FSV Mainz 05, Łukasz Piszczek striking a last-gasp winner after Ivan Perišić had cancelled out Nicolai Müller's opener for the hosts. UEFA Europa League contenders FC Schalke 04, meanwhile, won 4-2 against SC Freiburg, with Jefferson Farfán, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Lewis Holtby and Raúl González on target.

VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach maintained their fine start to the season with a 1-0 win against 1. FC Nürnberg, and ten-man VfL Wolfsburg beat 1. FC Kaiserslautern by the same margin, while FC Augsburg and Hannover 96 drew 0-0.
