City clear as London trio celebrate

Manchester City FC remain clear at the Premier League summit on what was also a satisfying day for London challengers Chelsea FC, Tottenham Hotspur FC and Arsenal FC.

Ahead of their decisive UEFA Champions League fixture against FC Bayern München, unbeaten City defeated Norwich City FC 5-1, Sergio Agüero's clever 32nd-minute poke complemented after the break by Samir Nasri's free-kick and Yaya Touré's strike. Steve Morison reduced arrears but substitutes Mario Balotelli and Adam Johnson replied. City remain five points ahead of Manchester United FC, who won 1-0 at Aston Villa FC via a Phil Jones goal.

Like City and United, Chelsea have a vital midweek European tie and hit form with a 3-0 victory at Newcastle United FC. Frank Lampard's early penalty was saved by Tim Krul but Chelsea recovered with goals from Didier Drogba and, in the dying minutes, substitute Salomon Kalou and Daniel Sturridge. Chelsea are fourth, behind Spurs who saw off ten-man Bolton Wanderers FC 3-0.

Arsenal are now fifth after their 4-0 victory at Wigan Athletic FC, who went bottom behind Bolton on goal difference as Blackburn Rovers FC overcame Swansea City FC 4-2 with four Ayegbeni Yakubu goals. In mid-table Queens Park Rangers FC and West Bromwich Albion FC drew 1-1.
