SL Benfica have completed the signing of Netherlands Under-21 winger Ola John from FC Twente for an undisclosed fee.

John, who was born in Liberia, has agreed terms on a five-year deal with the Eagles, who have incorporated a €45m release clause. After coming through the ranks of Twente's academy, the 20-year-old has established himself as a first-team regular over the course of the last two seasons, scoring eight goals in 46 Eredivisie appearances for the Tukkers and registering once in the UEFA Europa League.

John, who played against Benfica in last August's UEFA Champions League play-off tie, will be looking forward to testing himself in European club football's premier competition next season after Benfica qualified for the group stage by finishing as runners-up to FC Porto in the Portuguese Liga.
