Carlos Tévez scored his 100th goal in English football to rescue a point for Manchester City FC against Liverpool FC at Anfield, while Stoke City FC held Arsenal FC to a second consecutive goalless draw.

After coming from behind to claim a win against league newcomers Southampton FC in last weekend's opener, Roberto Mancini's men found themselves trailing on two occasions in Merseyside before securing a 2-2 draw. After Tévez had hit the post from a tight angle, City fell behind when Martin Škrtel powered Steven Gerrard's corner in with his head after 34 minutes.

Yaya Touré scrambled in from close range after the interval, but Luis Suárez restored the home side's lead with an excellent free-kick. They could not hold it, though, as Tévez secured a point with ten minutes remaining, rounding Pepe Reina after collecting Škrtel's loose pass back to his goalkeeper.

In the day's other game, Arsenal drew a blank for the second week running as they were held 0-0 at Stoke City. The visitors were the more threatening of the two teams, with summer recruits Lukas Podolski, Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla all going close. Asmir Begović was on form in goal for Stoke, who almost grabbed a win late on through Jon Walters.
