UEFA Women's EURO 2013 kicks off in exactly a month's time in Sweden. Seven cities host 12 teams in a tournament televised throughout the continent and beyond, with professional players on virtually every side and up to 50,000 fans expected at the Friends Arena final.

The competition has come a long way since 1982, when 16 nations started out on the road to the 1984 final. UEFA.com's four-part documentary on the history of the UEFA Women's EURO begins with a look back to those early days in the company of pioneering players Pia Sundhage, Doris Fitschen and Steffi Jones.
