Jablonec down Plzeň in Czech Super Cup

FK Jablonec shook of a poor start to capture their first Czech Super Cup, three second-half goals edging them past champions FC Viktoria Plzeň in a breathless encounter.

FK Jablonec boss Roman Skuhravý said there was work still to be done before their season begins in earnest despite coming from behind to win 3-2 against champions FC Viktoria Plzeň to collect their first Czech Super Cup.

Two goals in six minutes midway through the second half turned the game on its head, Vít Beneš and Michal Hubník scoring to cancel out Tomáš Wágner's early volley. Wágner though he had another when a late effort was ruled out because a team-mate was in an offside position. Jan Kopic duly delivered the killer blow for the Czech Cup holders, and though there was no denying Wágner moments later, it was too little, too late for Plzeň.

"We wanted to win and managed it, but there is still a lot to improve if we want to be successful, especially in the Europa League," said Skuhravý, whose team begin their campaign in the third qualifying round. The 38-year-old, celebrating his second trophy in only eight matches in charge, highlighted lax passing and a lack of precision in front of goal. Plzeň will have to work a little faster, however: they meet FK Željezničar in the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round on Tuesday.
