Pontus Segerström, captain of Allsvenskan side IF Brommapojkarna, died in the early hours of Monday morning. He was diagnosed with a brain tumour on 11 August. "It's incredibly tragic. He was a guy who enjoyed everybody's respect," club president Ola Danhard told Expressen on Monday.

The 33-year went to the doctor in August, complaining of a headache and the check-up revealed the tumour. "Two months ago he was perfectly healthy. Now he's no more," added Danhard.

The defender played 14 Allsvenskan matches this season. His last match was the UEFA Europa League qualifier against Torino FC on 31 July. Segerström came to Brommapojkarna as a youth player and also represented Landskrona BoIS in Allsvenskan as well as Odense BK in Denmark and Stabæk Fotball in Norway, where he won the league title in 2008.
