SV Werder Bremen have replaced coach Robin Dutt by promoting Viktor Skripnika after Friday's 1-0 home loss to 1. FC Köln and their worst-ever Bundesliga start.
That result kept Bremen bottom without a win and the board decided to part ways with the coach who succeeded Thomas Schaaf in summer 2013 but managed ten wins and 20 losses in 43 Bundesliga matches in charge. In Dutt's place comes Under-23 coach and former Werder player Viktor Skripnik, starting with Tuesday's German Cup fixture against third division side Chemnitzer FC.
Ukrainian international defender Skripnik was a fan favourite at Bremen during his playing days, joining in 1994 and winning the cup in 1999 followed by a domestic double before his 2004 retirement. He has been a youth coach ever since.
