UEFA's quest to encourage female leaders

WF Programme

A third edition of UEFA's Women in Football Leadership Programme begins this week, with positive progress being made in the year since its inauguration.

Women in Football Leadership Programme making a difference

A year after its inauguration, UEFA's innovative Women in Football Leadership Programme stages its third edition this week.

Aiming to get more women involved in senior roles in football's management and decision-making process, representatives of Europe's national associations and high-profile guests will take part in Nyon and there will be a keynote speech from former world fencing champion Claudia Bokel, now representing the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Florence Lombardo (Credit Suisse) will also address the participants on the role of women in senior management, whilst Raphael Crowe (International Labour Organisation) will discuss the importance of gender equality in the workplace.

The UEFA Women in Football Leadership Programme is already showing signs of success with participants from previous editions making great strides in their national associations. In Azerbaijan, Konul Mehtiyeva has led major projects including the successful bid for a UEFA EURO 2020 venue in Baku as a result of her involvement.

"She is becoming a real leader nowadays and is leading a few projects already," said Elkhan Mammadov, general secretary of the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA). "Since the Women in Football Leadership Programme at UEFA, she is a self-confident person who can lead different projects and different people."
