Luis Suárez's most eye-catching goals

To celebrate Luis Suárez's 80th birthday, Richard Martin has delved into the archives to select some of the ex-FC Barcelona and FC Internazionale Milano player's best goals.

Dubbed 'the architect' by Alfredo Di Stéfano, Luis Suárez was most admired for his ability to orchestrate attacks, but he also knew how to finish them off. To mark his 80th birthday, UEFA.com looks at the former FC Barcelona, FC Internazionale Milano and Spain midfielder's best goals.

Real Madrid CF 2-2 FC Barcelona, 9 November 1960
The friction between Spain's biggest clubs was at its peak in the early '60s, as Suárez later recalled. "This was always a game of great tension and rivalry," he said. "Real Madrid and Barça were the world's strongest teams."

Having lost 6-2 on aggregate to Madrid in the semi-finals of the 1960 European Champion Clubs' Cup, Barcelona had a shot at revenge in the first round of the following season's competition.

Enrique Mateos put the Merengues ahead early on in the first leg, but Suárez levelled with a shot from the edge of the penalty area after dispossessing Marquitos. The midfielder struck again in the 87th minute from the penalty spot to cancel out Paco Gento's goal, setting up a mouthwatering second leg at the Nou Camp, where the hosts prevailed 2-1 to become the first team to knock Madrid out of the European Cup.

FC Internazionale Milano 6-0 Genoa CFC, 10 March 1963
This goal showcased Suárez's elegance and grace on the ball. He scampered down the left wing on a muddy surface and into the box, knocking the ball past one player, chipping it over the foot of another and then turning one more opponent before driving a shot low into the net. This was a typically dominant performance from the Nerazzurri that season as they won their first Scudetto in nine years, the first trophy of Helenio Herrera's Grande Inter dynasty.

Juventus 0-2 FC Internazionale Milano, 16 May 1965
Having shone in the Clásico, Suarez made his mark on possibly Italy's biggest fixture, the Derby d'Italia. Inter headed to the Stadio Comunale needing to defeat their rivals to remain in title contention with AC Milan, and the midfielder gave them the lead with a thumping free-kick which flew into the far corner.

FC Internazionale Milano 4-0 AC Milan, 2 April 1967
The year 1967 proved to be an agonising one for Inter as they missed out on the Scudetto to Juventus by a point and were beaten by Celtic FC in the European Cup final. However, they still reigned supreme in their own city. Suárez scored the third of four goals in this dominant performance against the Rossoneri. He drifted towards the penalty box from the left, skipped past one defender and calmly rounded another before curling the ball into the far bottom corner.

Torino FC 1-2 FC Internazionale Milano, 6 March 1966
This goal bears some similarities to Suárez's strike against Milan, but had greater significance. Inter were going for their tenth Serie A title and knew they would get no favours from the Granata. With the game poised at 0-0, Suárez controlled a pass from the right with his left boot, shaking off a defender and then shimmying past another to bring the ball onto his favoured right foot. With no backlift, he sent the ball flying into the net. It set Herrera's men on their way to a 2-1 win and two months later another Scudetto arrived, earning the Nerazzurri the first and so far only star on their shirts.
