Sandro Salvadore, part of the Italy side that won the 1968 UEFA European Championship, has died aged 67 after a long illness.
Juve success
Salvadore won 36 caps and was part of Italy's squads at the 1962 and 1966 FIFA World Cup finals. After lifting two Scudettos with AC Milan in 1959 and 1962, the defender joined Juventus and spent 12 seasons with the Bianconeri. He appeared 450 times for them, winning Serie A titles in 1967, 1972 and 1973 and the Coppa Italia in 1965.
'Immense class'
By the time he retired in 1974, Salvadore had featured in 331 Serie A games for Juve - ensuring him a place among the club's all-time top ten appearance-makers. "He was a great player with immense class," said Juventus president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli. "We are extremely sad about his death and we are close to his family. We will miss our captain."
