Aerial strength
Born in Alsace, Kaelbel appeared 35 times for France, scoring once, and helped Les Bleus finish with a bronze medal at the 1958 World Cup in Sweden. A strong central defender with good aerial ability, he played club football for SR Colmar, Le Havre AC and Stade de Reims Champagne, but his biggest achievements came at AS Monaco FC where he was a French Cup winner in 1960 and a league champion in 1961, He lifted the cup again with RC Strasbourg in 1966.
