How the award works

Award

Two panels of journalists from across Europe decide the winners of the 2015/16 UEFA Best Player in Europe Awards, with the result to be announced at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco on 25 August.

• The juries comprised renowned sports journalists representing each of the UEFA national associations (55 for the men's award, 20 for the women's award).

• For the men's award each journalist provides an initial list of their top five players, with the first player receiving five points, the second four points and so on. The top ten overall are then the subject of a second round of voting.

• The three players with the most points from the second round of voting are shortlisted for the final round.

• The three nominees were announced on 5 August.

• For the women's award the initial shortlist of ten is decided by lists provided by the eight coaches of the 2015/16 UEFA Women's Champions League quarter-finalists and those of the 12 top-ranked countries in Europe according to the national team coefficient ranking, with the first player receiving five points, the second four points and so on.

• The top ten overall are then the subject of a second round of voting by the panel of journalists.

• The three players with the most points from the second round of voting are shortlisted for the final round.

• The three nominees were announced on 5 August.

Both deciding votes will take place ahead of the UEFA Champions League group stage draw in Monaco on 25 August.
