VMFD Žalgiris have retained the Lithuanian title after a 5-1 defeat of FK Ekranas.

At kick-off Žalgiris knew a win would lift them an unassailable 16 points clear of FK Kruoja, who have five games to spare. And Linas Pilibaitis scored twice in the first half before Deividas Šemberas, Jakub Wilk and Artūras Žulpa each added a goal to give Žalgiris a second straight domestic double, having claimed a third consecutive Lithuanian Cup in May.

Žulpa said: "It might have looked easy, but we tried our best today to put on a performance worthy of champions. We were sure of victory from the start and everyone was fired up in the dressing room before the game."

Žalgiris, who exited the UEFA Champions League in the second qualifying round to GNK Dinamo Zagreb in July, will return to that competition again next season. In the race for UEFA Europa League spots, Kruoja are are two points ahead of third-placed FK Trakai with a game in hand. FK Atlantas and FK Sūduva are three further back.
