Kolbeinsson honoured in Iceland

Finnur Kolbeinsson has been voted player of the year by the Icelandic Football Association.

Finnur Kolbeinsson has been voted player of the year at the Icelandic Football Association's annual awards ceremony.

Cup success
Kolbeinsson, captain of cup winners Fylkir, was singled out for his outstanding performances throughout the 2002 season, which concluded last month. He led his side to the Icelandic Cup as well as the runners-up spot in the league. The coach of the year prize went to Willum Thor Thorsson of champions KR Reykjavík, who just pipped Fylkir on the final day.

Golden shoe
Grindavík forward Gretar Olafur Hjartarson won the golden shoe for finishing as top scorer with 13 goals. The fair play team award went to ÍA Akranes, while individual fair play recognition was given to Agust Gylfason of Fram Reykjavík. ÍBV Vestmannæyjar's Gunnar Heidar Thorvaldsson was singled out as the most promising player of the season.
