Middlesbrough secure Vidmar deal

Middlesbrough FC have completed the signing of Australian international Tony Vidmar.

Middlesbrough FC manager Steve McClaren today completed the signing of Australian international defender Tony Vidmar after the closure of the transfer window.

Out of contract
The English Premiership side were able to recruit the former Rangers FC player after the deadline for signings because he was out of contract with his former club.

FIFA clearance
The 33-year-old will go straight into the squad for tomorrow night's derby clash with Sunderland AFC at the Riverside Stadium, provided the Teessiders receive clearance from FIFA in time.

McClaren delighted
"We are delighted to bring Tony on board because when Gianluca Festa left the club, we were a bit short in cover at the back and with this window, which means you can't sign anyone until January, we didn't want to leave ourselves short," said McClaren.
