Liverpool FC centre-back Martin Škrtel has been named Slovakian Player of the Year for the second year in succession.
'Satisfied'
The 24-year-old finished ahead of SSC Napoli midfielder Marek Hamšík and VfL Bochum 1848 forward Stanislav Šesták in a poll conducted by Slovakian newspaper Pravda. "Having been injured for three months last year, I have to be satisfied to have won this prize again – it's a nice feeling," said Škrtel, alluding to the right knee injury he sustained during a Premier League match against Manchester City FC on 5 October.
England test
Škrtel is in London with Slovakia preparing to play England at Wembley in a friendly on Saturday, before the FIFA World Cup qualification Group 3 leaders face Czech Republic in a qualifier in Prague on 1 April. "England is a prestigious match for us," added Škrtel. "It would be fantastic to score at Wembley and to avoid defeat."
