Ten referee trios from Europe are among the 30 referee trios representing 28 different countries who have been appointed for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

In announcing the decision taken by the FIFA Referees Committee in Zurich on Friday, the world football governing body said that a comprehensive preparation programme would ensure that the referees would be in peak condition for the start of the tournament on 11 June. The group of European referees includes Italy's Roberto Rosetti, who officiated at the UEFA EURO 2008 final between Germany and Spain in Vienna.

FIFA said that the latest technology had been implemented in the preparation of the referees both within practical training and interactive sessions, while performances at FIFA competitions had also been analysed and evaluated.

The 30 trios of referees selected will participate in a training seminar next month. FIFA said that a final assessment would be conducted in May and a decision made regarding the acting and support referees before the first match appointments were made for the tournament in South Africa.
