• Warsaw-born Lewandowski played youth football for various clubs in the capital, including Legia Warszawa's second team, before joining lower-league outfit Znicz Pruszków.

• Finished his debut campaign with Pruszków (2006/07) as the division's top scorer, with 15 goals, as the team won promotion; repeated the feat the following season in the second division with 21 goals.

• Joined Lech in summer 2008 and scored on his European and domestic debuts – against Xäzär Länkäran FC and GKS Bełchatów, respectively; finished third in Ekstraklasa scoring charts with 14 goals before spearheading Lech to the title in 2009/10 with a top-scoring tally of 18.

• Scored on his debut for Poland – a FIFA World Cup qualifier against San Marino on 10 September 2008 – and reached double figures for his country in February 2011 in a friendly against Norway. Struck the first goal of UEFA EURO 2012, against Greece, heading in after 17 minutes of the tournament's opening game.

• Left his homeland for Dortmund on four-year contract in June 2010; scored his first Bundesliga goal in the local derby against FC Schalke 04, one of eight he registered in the Schwarzgelben's title-winning season.

• Enjoyed the most productive campaign of his career in 2011/12, scoring 22 league goals as Dortmund retained the title and hitting a hat-trick in a 5-2 German Cup final triumph over FC Bayern München.

• Having registered in 12 successive Bundesliga games prior to the 2012/13 UEFA Champions League semi-finals, Lewandowski became the first player to score a 'poker' in a last-four match in Europe's premier club competition when he achieved the feat in Dortmund's 4-1 defeat of Real Madrid CF.
