Transfer round-up: 10-16 January

Into the second week of the European domestic transfer window, UEFA.com will keep you posted with stories on all the major signings involving clubs in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, while keeping track of other significant moves in this regularly updated transfer round-up.

Aston Villa FC have bolstered their midfield with the signing of Cameroonian international Jean Makoun. The 27-year-old arrives in the west Midlands on the back of two and a half seasons at Olympique Lyonnais, where he scored eight goals in 76 league appearances. "I am thrilled to be here at Aston Villa," said Makoun. "I am really, really happy and very proud to have joined a great club."

Roque Santa Cruz has rejoined Blackburn Rovers FC, with the Paraguay striker spending the rest of the 2010/11 campaign on loan at Ewood Park. Santa Cruz, 29, has only played twice for Manchester City FC this term and returns to a club where he scored 23 goals in 57 Premier League appearances between 2007 and 2009.

Birmingham City FC have bolstered their ranks by taking David Bentley on loan from Tottenham Hotspur FC for the rest of the season. The 26-year-old, who has seven caps for England, has made just two Premier League appearances this term. "He's a classy footballer and will enhance the quality of the squad," said manager Alex McLeish.

West Ham United FC have also strengthened in their battle against relegation by capturing a former England international as Wayne Bridge, 30, arrives from Manchester City FC for the remainder of the campaign. The ex-Southampton FC and Chelsea FC left-back, who played four times in this term's UEFA Europa League group stage, said: "There is a lot of quality here and I know we can move up the table."

Club Atlético de Madrid have signed midfielder Juanfran from CA Osasuna for a reported fee of €4m. The 26-year-old arrives at the Vicente Calderón on a three-and-a-half season deal to replace Portuguese winger Simão, who departed for Beşiktaş JK earlier this month. The Real Madrid CF academy graduate spent a campaign on loan at RCD Espanyol before signing for Osasuna in 2006, scoring 12 goals in 148 Liga appearances.

After two and a half years at AC Milan, 2005 FIFA Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldinho will return to Brazil after signing a contract until 2014 with CR Flamengo. The 30-year-old forward, who joined the Rossoneri from FC Barcelona in 2008, was no longer a regular under coach Massimiliano Allegri, and said: "I came back to Brazil to play for Flamengo, and I hope to be part of the national team again." Milan team-mate Zlatan Ibrahimović added: "I'm sorry Ronnie is no longer with us. I think he's one of the greatest players of all time; it was an honour to play with him."

UEFA Europa League contenders Beşiktaş JK have loaned Slovakia striker Filip Hološko to fellow Turkish Super League side İstanbul BB SK until the end of the season. Hološko, scorer of 25 goals in 78 league appearances for Beşiktaş, follows defender Tomáš Zápotočný – who has moved to AC Sparta Praha – in leaving the club this month. Beşiktaş have also signed Manuel Fernandes, Hugo Almeida and Simão Sabrosa as well as handing a new contract to midfielder Fabian Ernst, who will remain with the Black Eagles until June 2014.

FC Girondins de Bordeaux have signed promising Slovenia goalkeeper Abze Jug for an undisclosed fee. The 18-year-old arrives from NK Ljubljana on a deal which ties him to the Stade Chaban-Delmas until summer 2014. Jug will provide backup to Cédric Carasso and Ulrich Ramé.
