Koumas continues at the helm in Cyprus

Koumas, who was confirmed in office by acclamation at the CFA annual general assembly in Limassol, will continue at the helm of Cypriot football for a further four years.

"Your vote to entrust me for another term as president of the CFA not only honours me personally,” said Koumas. “It also fills me with strength to continue working towards what Cypriot football deserves."

"This is not a personal victory, but a chance to reflect, coordinate and spring into action together," he told delegates.

Protecting football

"Football is part of the fabric of our society and it is our duty to protect it.” Koumas continued. “But just like any society in general, it is not without its problems. Our goal is to address them in the best way possible."

Born in the coastal town of Paralimni, George Koumas has run businesses in his home town relating to tourism, sports tourism, television licensing and media while also serving as president of Enosis Neon Paralimni FC.

In 2005, he was named CFA deputy general secretary and, two years later, he took on the role of CFA deputy president. Koumas was elected as CFA president in March 2018, succeeding the late Costakis Koutsokoumnis.

In May 2018, the UEFA Executive Committee appointed Koumas to replace Costakis Koutsokoumnis on the FIFA Council until the 2019 UEFA Congress. He was re-elected as a FIFA Council member for the 2019-21 period at UEFA's Rome Congress in February 2019, and was re-elected again at the Ordinary UEFA Congress in Montreux in April 2021.
