Bordeaux lead chase as PSG slump

FC Girondins de Bordeaux started the new season with victory against Toulouse FC while Paris Saint-Germain FC slumped to defeat against FC Lorient.

FC Girondins de Bordeaux kicked off their Ligue 1 campaign in a familiar position on Saturday night, trying to catch up with five-times champions Olympique Lyonnais who had opened the season with a 3-1 win away to FC Nantes Atlantique the previous evening.

Chamakh opener
After a goalless first-half, Bordeaux, runners-up to Lyon last season, went ahead when Marouane Chamakh headed in on 62 minutes. Former Bordeaux coach Elie Baup was returning to his former side as coach of Toulouse, but he left empty-handed after France Under-21 international Julien Faubert made sure of the points in added time. Bordeaux were without new signing Johan Micoud, who was suspended for the game.

Lille on top
LOSC Lille Métropole, who finished third last season, also opened their campaign with victory, 2-1 away to Stade Rennais FC. Goals from Mathieu Bodmer and Kader Keita put Lille 2-0 up by half-time and Claude Puel's side were able to collect all three points despite Olivier Monterrubio pulling one back for Rennes from the penalty spot after the break.

PSG crash
Ivory Coast striker Aruna Dindane scored eight minutes before the interval to give RC Lens a 1-0 win against ES Troyes Aube Champagne while Paris Saint-Germain FC slumped to an embarrassing 3-2 home defeat against promoted FC Lorient. In a thrilling match former PSG winger Fabrice Fiorèse cancelled out goals by Pierre-Alain Frau and Fabrice Pancrate before Rafik Saïfi hit the winner 16 minutes from time.

Monaco defeat
Jan Koller made his debut for AS Monaco FC but was unable to prevent them from slipping to a disappointing 1-0 defeat away to AS Nancy-Lorraine. Monaco finished the match with ten men after David Gigliotti picked up a straight red card for unsporting behaviour five minutes from time. FC Sochaux-Montbéliard came back from a goal down to defeat AS Saint-Etienne 2-1 thanks to goals in each half from Jérôme Leroy and Karim Ziani.

Marseille test
Newly promoted Valenciennes FC, back in the top flight for the first time in 13 years, held AJ Auxerre to a 1-1 draw and Le Mans UC 72 defeated OGC Nice 1-0 in Burgundy. Olympique de Marseille are away to newcomers CS Sedan-Ardennes on Sunday.
