Norway denied by last-ditch Danes

Norway 1-1 Denmark A late goal gave Denmark a draw against the group leaders.

A late goal gave Denmark a 1-1 draw in their UEFA European Women's Championship qualifier in Norway.

Late leveller
The Norwegians took the lead with a Mariann Pettersen goal after 30 minutes, but Lene Jensen salvaged a point for the visitors in the first game of their Group 2 campaign with a goal two minutes from time at the Kolbotn Stadium, just outside Oslo.

Petterson header
The home side dominated the opening phase of the game and took a deserved lead through Pettersen's headed effort which the Danish goalkeeper got a hand to but could not keep out. It was Pettersen's 64th goal in 93 internationals and her first following a three-year absence from the Norway side.

Wasted chances
Norway wasted good opportunities to add to their lead before the break, with Dagny Mellgren going close, and they were made to regret their profligacy as the Danes edged their way into the game in the second half.

Low shot
Making good use of the counterattack, the Danes levelled the scores when Jensen finished off a move with a low shot from close range. It was Norway's last game before they fly out to the United States on Sunday for the FIFA Women's World Cup finals.

Bitter Steen
"It was bitter to lose two points like this," said Norway coach Åge Steen. "But all in all we have ourselves to blame. We should have produced more and made better use of our chances."
