Milan agree to Rivaldo release

AC Milan have decided to release Brazilian FIFA World Cup winner Rivaldo from his contract.

European champions AC Milan have agreed to release Brazilian forward Rivaldo from his contract.

Mutual decision
In a brief statement, club vice-president Adriano Galliani said: "The decision to mutually cancel the contract, with effect from today, was taken in absolute friendship and calmness." Rivaldo's contract had been due to expire in July 2005.

Felt 'humiliated'
The 31-year-old, who helped Brazil win the 2002 FIFA World Cup, has not featured for Milan in Serie A or the UEFA Champions League this season and recently said he felt "humiliated" at being left out of the side.

Free transfer
Rivaldo joined Milan on a free transfer at the start of last season but struggled to win a place in the side and was on the bench for last May's Champions League triumph. Earlier this week, the player said he would like to stay in European football should he leave the San Siro.
