Time running out for trio

Galatasaray SK, Olympiacos CFP and PSV Eindhoven reach the halfway point as the only teams yet to win a point.

Newcastle feat
The trio will know that another defeat tonight would likely spell the end of their chances. That said, they can cling to the achievement of Newcastle United FC last season, who lost their first three matches in the first group stage and still progressed.

Basement duel
Galatasaray and Olympiacos will meet in Istanbul in a Group D showdown of the utmost importance, not least because the section's top two, Juventus FC and Real Sociedad de Fútbol, both take 100 per cent records into their contest in Turin.

Antzas determined
Olympiacos captain Paraskevas Antzas said: "We will have a difficult game with Galatasaray but we have come to Istanbul to get a result which we hope will help our chances of continuing in the Champions League."

'Last chance'
In Group C, Guus Hiddink's PSV travel to AEK Athens FC, who themselves have only one point so far. Given the excellent form of AS Monaco FC and RC Deportivo La Coruña, who meet in the other group fixture, a positive performance is vital for both clubs. Hiddink said: "This is our last chance to show what we can do and see if we can progress."

Tight group
Group A is a closer affair. Leaders FC Bayern München have achieved a win and a draw so far but tonight's visitors, Olympique Lyonnais, are only one point adrift as are Celtic FC, who travel to RSC Anderlecht. The Belgian team may have just one point but are in great form as shown by eight wins from nine in domestic action.

Zanetti determined
Internazionale FC can maintain their stranglehold on Group B with a third straight victory at FC Lokomotiv Moskva. However, it remains to be seen how much upheaval has been caused by the weekend sacking of coach Héctor Cúper. Inter captain Javier Zanetti said: "We are aware of the importance of this game and we are ready to give everything." Last-placed Arsenal FC, who like Lokomotiv only have one point, have also made a long trip east, to take on second-placed FC Dynamo Kyiv.
