Bordon blow for Stuttgart

VfB Stuttgart have lost influential Brazilian defender Marcelo Bordon until the new year.

VfB Stuttgart have lost influential defender Marcelo Bordon until after the winter break in Germany.

Surgery needed
The 27-year-old Brazilian centre-back has been a major player in Stuttgart's impressive run in the Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League but has been forced out of action with a groin injury. He was undergoing surgery today and will not return until early next year.

'Good job'
Stuttgart coach Felix Magath replaced Bordon with young German defender Timo Wenzel against SC Freiburg on Saturday and Wenzel will keep his place for Tuesday night's trip to Athens to face Panathinaikos FC. "Timo did a good job on Saturday as he has in the past whenever he has played for Marcelo," said Magath. "I am certain that he will do so in Athens as well. There is no need to worry."
