Makelele makes return

Claude Makelele is back in the France squad to face Germany in a friendly on 15 November.

France coach Jacques Santini's 18-man squad to face Germany in a friendly in Gelsenkirchen on 15 November contains no real surprises.

Duo missing
Arsenal FC captain Patrick Vieira and Chelsea FC defender Marcel Desailly have not been called up due to injury while Claude Makelele is recalled. Djibril Cissé and Philippe Mexès miss out as they are likely to be in the Under-21 squad for the UEFA European Under-21 Championship play-offs against Portugal on 15 and 18 November.

Santini hope
"We want to maintain this impression of solidity against a world power," Santini said. "We want to retain our team framework and we are going to need all the information from the games to come, starting with this one." The match will be the first warm-up for the reigning European champions ahead of UEFA EURO 2004™ next summer.

France squad
Barthez, Coupet, Boumsong, Gallas, Lizarazu, Sagnol, Silvestre, Thuram, Dacourt, Giuly, Makelele, Pedretti, Pires, Zidane, Wiltord, Henry, Marlet, Trezeguet.
