Inzaghi waiting on test results

Filippo Inzaghi could be out for up to three months after damaging knee ligaments during Milan AC's 3-2 defeat of AC Chievo Verona on Sunday.

Lengthy tests
Inzaghi was carried off in the 67th minute of the match at the San Siro stadium and the club have confirmed he has damaged a ligament in his left knee. Inzaghi underwent lengthy tests at the Milanese medical centre Cercolo di Varese on Monday and the club will decide this week whether he will require surgery.

'A setback'
"In the next 48 to 72 hours, Milan will evaluate whether the player needs to be operated on," said a club statement. Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti told the club's official website: "Filippo's injury is a setback. He was having a good season and he was very fit. I hope it is not too serious."

Galliano's fears
Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani had said after the match that the 25-year-old would definitely be out until the new year but was hopeful the injury would not require an operation, which could sideline him for three months. "The hope is that this is only a twisted knee, in which case there will be no need for an operation," he said. "But the fear is that there is knee-ligament damage which will mean an operation is inevitable."

Opening goal
Inzaghi put Milan on their way to maximum points in Sunday's match with the opening goal after 15 minutes. After Chievo had replied with two goals before half-time, Andriy Shevchenko drew Milan level from the penalty spot before heading home the winner in the 64th minute.
