Javier Saviola helped FC Barcelona fight back for a point against Galatasaray SK on a UEFA Champions League night that also saw Manchester United FC and FC Bayern München claim victory.

Happy with point
Galatasaray had a two-goal lead at half-time after goals from Ümit Karan and Andres Fleurquin but Saviola scored twice after the break for the Catalan club. Although they lost their advantage, the Turkish club had to be content with a point come the final whistle in this Group B match as they finished the game with nine men.

Two off
The first man to be dismissed was Capone in the 62nd minute before Hakan Ünsal followed just before the end. Barcelona top the group with four points after defeating Liverpool FC 3-1 at Anfield stadium a fortnight ago.

Blanc scores
United were comfortable 3-0 winners at home against Boavista FC, laregly thanks to two goals from Ruud van Nistelrooij. The Dutch striker scored either side of Laurent Blanc’s first goal for the English champions to put United on four points in Group A.

Bayern edge it
The English club have the same number of points as group rivals Bayern, who won 1-0 away in France against FC Nantes Atlantique, but top the group on goal difference. Paulo Sergio scored the only goal for the German champions when he converted an Owen Hargreaves corner in the 65th minute.

Point for Liverpool
Liverpool got their first Group B point with a hard-fought goalless draw against Italian champions AS Roma. Neither side really created a clear scoring opportunity in the Olimpico stadium but the visiting English club will be the happier following their Matchday Seven defeat by Barcelona.
