Ongoing discussions
European football's governing body confirmed today that the Norwegian capital would host the game as planned, but have also asked for a reserve venue to be proposed. Discussions have been ongoing about the venue for the match, after concerns were expressed about the possible weather conditions in Norway at the end of February.
Under-soil heating
"At this moment in time, the UEFA Cup match between Vålerenga IF and Newcastle United will go ahead as scheduled on Thursday 26 February at the Ullevål stadium in Oslo, as the pitch is covered and fitted with under-soil heating," said UEFA spokesman Rob Faulkner
Reserve venue
"We have asked Vålerenga to propose a reserve venue, as this is common practice with any club involved in our competitions and situated where weather conditions may pose a potential problem. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will have further news closer to the match date."
