• A reserve goalkeeper at Atlético, Koldo Álvarez came through the club's youth ranks and won the Copa del Rey with the Spanish side in 1991/92.
• Leaving the capital in search of first-team football, Álvarez played for Toledo before winning promotion to the Spanish second division with Salamanca in 1993/94.
• Signed for FC Andorra in the summer of 1994, dividing his time between playing for the club's first team and acting as a youth coach of the national Under-17, U19 and U21 teams.
• Capped 79 times by Andorra before his retirement following a 6-0 loss to England at Wembley in June 2009. Named as his nation's best player of the last 50 years by the Andorran Football Federation.
• Less than a year after retiring, he took over as coach of the national team in February 2010 following the departure of David Rodrigo, who had been in charge since 1999.
