Fellaini's season comes to early end

Everton manager David Moyes has said that Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini requires ankle surgery and will therefore be unavailable for the rest of the season.

Everton will have to negotiate the rest of their UEFA Europa League campaign without midfielder Marouane Fellaini, who will be sidelined for six months due to an ankle injury.

Fellaini, who featured in five of the Toffees' group-stage games, sustained the problem during his side's 1-0 defeat by Merseyside rivals Liverpool FC on 6 February. The 22-year-old also missed the subsequent 2-1 victory against Chelsea FC four days later – only the second league game this term he has not featured in – and now requires surgery. "He's not good," said Everton manager David Moyes. "He's going to have an operation. It's probably going to keep him out for six months." Everton are up against Sporting Clube de Portugal in the round of 32.
