• Born in Lithuania's second city of Kaunas, Stankevičius launched his career 80km north in Panevezys with Ekranas, winning the domestic cup in 2000 after scoring twice in the last four against FK Inkaras Kaunas.

• Joined Brescia in 2002 following four seasons with Ekranas but struggled early on and was loaned to Cosenza; by 2004/05 he was a fixture in the Brescia side which was relegated from Serie A.

• Remained in Serie B with Brescia for the next three seasons before returning to the top flight in July 2008 with a move to Sampdoria; made his European debut for the Blucerchiati against home-town club FBK Kaunas in the UEFA Cup first round (5-0), featured 30 times in Serie A and helped the club to the final of the Coppa Italia (lost on penalties to S.S. Lazio).

• Switched to Sevilla in January 2010, helping the Andalusian outfit win the Copa del Rey and qualify for the UEFA Champions League; returned to Sampdoria in the summer but was sent out on loan again, for the season, to Valencia.

• A Lithuanian international since July 2001, he won his 50th cap in a friendly against UEFA EURO 2012 co-hosts Ukraine (0-4) on 25 May 2010.
