Leekens set for Belgium post

Georges Leekens is set to return for a second stint as Belgium head coach after the Royal Belgian Football Association announced an agreement in principle for him to take the reins.

The Royal Belgian Football Association (URBSFA-KBVB) has announced that an initial agreement has been reached with Georges Leekens to become the national team's head coach for a second time.

The URBSFA-KBVB said in an official statement: "The FA has talked with Leekens in the past days – with the permission of his current club KV Kortrijk – and we have reached an agreement in principle to work together." Belgium's governing body added: "The deal is not official yet and some details need to be arranged. Leekens will be officially presented on a yet-to-be determined date."

Once confirmed, the URBSFA-KBVB will give Leekens the job of qualifying for UEFA EURO 2012, where Belgium face Germany, Turkey, Austria, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan in Group A. He would replace Dutchman Dick Advocaat, who resigned from his post last month after just four matches at the helm. Leekens, 60, previously took charge of the national side between January 1997 and August 1999, leading Belgium to the 1998 FIFA World Cup.
