Argentina striker Gonzalo Higuaín has signed a new three-year contract with Real Madrid CF, keeping him at the club until June 2016.

The 22-year-old arrived at the Santiago Bernabéu in January 2007 from CA River Plate and has thrived in the Liga. Higuaín helped Madrid to the title in his first two seasons in Spain and has struck 59 times in 110 league games, top scoring for Los Merengues in each of the past two top-flight campaigns with 22 and 27 goals respectively.

Higuaín, who scored his first two UEFA Champions League goals this season, made his Argentina debut on 10 October and has scored twice in five appearances for his country, a tally he will look to increase at the FIFA World Cup as part of Diego Maradona's squad.
