Polish champions Lech Poznań have brought striker Artur Wichniarek back to his home-town club after a long stay in German football.

The 33-year-old former Polish international rejoins Lech on a one-season contract from relegated Bundesliga side Hertha BSC Berlin. Having left Poznan when he signed for RTS Widzew Łódź in 1997, Wichniarek returns to the prospect of UEFA Champions League football with his first professional team.

"I would like to thank Lech for the chance to come back after many years in Germany," said the forward, who spent ten and a half seasons in the German game with DSC Arminia Bielefeld and Hertha. "The club are ambitious and have a strong desire to get through to the UEFA Champions League group stage. That challenge has convinced me to play here."

Wichniarek, whose deal will include a one-year extension option, helps to replace Robert Lewandowski who has departed Lech for BV Borussia Dortmund. Lech will enter Europe's elite club competition in the second qualifying round, taking on Azerbaijan's champions FC İnter Bakı on 13/14 and 20/21 July.
