Young Boys come of age in Turkey

Fenerbahçe SK 0-1 BSC Young Boys (agg: 2-3)
Henri Bienvenu's goal earned the Swiss visitors a famous victory over a Fenerbahçe side forced to play much of the second period with ten men.

BSC Young Boys claimed a famous 3-2 aggregate victory in Turkey, seeing off a Fenerbahçe SK side forced to play much of the second period with ten men.

In a game short on chances Henri Bienvenu made the most of his five minutes before half-time, latching onto Thierry Doubai's through ball and beating Volkan Demirel in a one-on-one. It was perhaps little more than the visitors' adventurous approach warranted, and their odds improved eight minutes after the restart when Miroslav Stoch was sent off. Fenerbahçe escaped with a 2-2 draw after playing half of last week's first leg with ten men but lightning failed to strike twice.

A last-gasp Moreno Costanzo penalty earned Young Boys a share of the spoils in Switzerland yet if the prospect of being so near to a place in Friday's play-off draw brought nerves, Vladimir Petković's side did not show it. The visitors hit the ground running, Costanzo and Doubai both forcing Volkan Demirel into action before the half-hour mark. The goalkeeper could not keep out Bienvenu soon after, however, and the writing was soon on the wall for Fenerbahçe.

Aykut Kocaman rang the changes, Alex and Bekir İrtegün making way for Selçuk Şahin and Gökhan Gönül, but when Stoch earned a second yellow card for simulation the game was up as Young Boys made full use of their advantage. Fenerbahçe, for whom the assured debut of Issiar Dia provided some consolation, will now turn attentions to the UEFA Europa League.
