Real Madrid CF defender Raúl Albiol will miss his team's opening UEFA Champions League group stage fixture after suffering a badly sprained right ankle.

The 24-year-old Spanish international picked up the knock during Tuesday's pre-season friendly draw at R. Standard de Liège and faces up to five weeks on the sidelines. The news will come as a blow to Madrid coach José Mourinho who has already lost attacker Kaká for four months with a knee problem, while defenders Pepe (calf) and Ezequiel Garay (knee) are struggling to be fit for Los Merengues' Liga opener away to RCD Mallorca on 29 August.
