Serbia on the brink of a play-off place

Serbia can secure a play-off berth with a win against group winners Italy, although Slovenia and Estonia can pip them to second place should they slip up in Belgrade.

Serbia will look to secure their play-off place when they meet Italy in a UEFA EURO 2012 Group C qualifier in Belgrade with their guests already sure of their berth in next year's finals.

• A win would confirm second place for Serbia, regardless of their final result against Slovenia on 11 October. Defeat in both of their remaining games, however, could allow Slovenia or Estonia to steal the play-off place.

• Serbia and Italy's first Group C meeting in Genoa on 12 October 2010 was abandoned because of crowd trouble. The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body decided to award the match as a 3-0 forfeit win for Italy.

• Italy's record in 21 games against Yugoslavia, Serbia and Montenegro and the independent Serbia is W9 D8 L4 (W1 D3 L3 away from home, W1 D2 L0 in Belgrade).
