Loïc Rémy will miss Olympique de Marseille's UEFA Champions League Group F opener at home to FC Spartak Moskva on 15 September because of a groin injury sustained while on international duty.
The striker has been advised to rest for a fortnight after being substituted 34 minutes into France's surprise 1-0 home defeat by Belarus in UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying on Friday. Rémy, who joined Marseille from Ligue 1 rivals OGC Nice for €13m last month, is not the only OM player on the sidelines. Centre-back Souleymane Diawara has just resumed training following a thigh injury and will not be considered for the game against AS Monaco FC this weekend.
