Napoli lose Lucarelli for group stage

Former Italian international striker Cristiano Lucarelli is not expected to play again for SSC Napoli in Group K after damaging knee ligaments in their opening 0-0 draw with FC Utrecht.

SSC Napoli striker Cristiano Lucarelli is expected to miss the rest of the UEFA Europa League group stage with damaged knee ligaments.

The 34-year-old twisted his left knee after coming on as a substitute with 15 minutes to play in the 0-0 draw against FC Utrecht in Group K on Thursday and tests confirmed ligament damage. Lucarelli, on loan from Parma FC, will undergo surgery on Monday and although Napoli have not yet revealed for how long the former Italy striker will be sidelined, he is not likely to play again in 2010.
