Bajević calls time on AEK again

Dušan Bajević has brought the curtain down on his third spell as coach of AEK Athens FC, resigning in the wake of the UEFA Europa League contenders' 3-1 loss at Olympiacos Volou FC.

AEK Athens FC coach Dušan Bajević resigned on Sunday night in the wake of a 3-1 loss at Olympiacos Volou FC, with his side having taken just four points from their first four Greek league games.

The 61-year-old Serbian coach said: "There is no point in me talking about the match. I have told the president and the players that I am resigning. Congratulations to Olympiacos Volou on their victory." Club president Stavros Adamidis later confirmed: "We have accepted his resignation. On Monday we will start looking for his successor."

Two late goals from Olympiacos Volou condemned AEK to their second defeat of the season against a promoted side, having previously lost to Kerkyra FC. Bajević's decision brings to an end his third spell as the club's coach, having been in charge on this occasion since 21 November 2008. He previously shone as a striker at AEK from 1977-81.

AEK visit FC Zenit St. Petersburg in the UEFA Europa League this week, having kicked off their Group G campaign with a 3-1 defeat of HNK Hajduk Split. Former Albanian international midfielder Bledar Kola, 38, has stepped up from his position as a youth team coach to take temporary charge of the senior AEK selection.
